Community Guidelines — Backpack of Songs
Version 1.0 — effective September 15, 2026
A post here is a song, a place, and up to 180 characters. That is a small surface, and almost everything on it is fine. These are the exceptions.
Do not post
Anything that identifies someone else. Names, addresses, phone numbers, workplaces, schools, or a note that tells people where a specific person can be found. Leaving a song at a place is fine. Leaving a song at a place because someone lives there is not.
Harassment. Notes aimed at a person, whether or not you name them. Threats, intimidation, or content meant to make someone feel followed.
Hate. Content that attacks or degrades people for their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, gender, gender identity or sexual orientation.
Sexual content involving minors. Any of it, in any form. We report this to the authorities and delete the account without warning.
Sexual content generally, and graphic violence. This is an app people open on a street.
Illegal content. Anything that breaks the law where you are or where we are, including selling drugs or weapons, or coordinating a crime.
Deception. Impersonating someone else, or posting as if you are somewhere you are not.
Spam and promotion. No advertising, no links to your own thing, no posting the same note across a city, no automated posting.
Other people's private information about their whereabouts. Do not post somebody else's location, even if you know it.
Do not do
- Do not use anonymous posting to say what you would not sign.
- Do not create accounts to get around a suspension.
- Do not scrape the app, or use it through anything other than the app.
- Do not use the map to work out where a specific person is.
Reporting
Every song card has a report control. Use it. The report tells us which post and why, and it goes to a person, not a queue that nobody reads. You can also write to support@backpackofsongs.com.
You can block a user. Their posts stop appearing on your radar and in your backpack, and yours stop appearing for them.
We aim to look at every report within 24 hours.
What happens when something is reported
Depending on what it is:
- We remove the post. You are told which post and which rule.
- We suspend the account, for a first serious break or a pattern of small ones.
- We delete the account, for anything involving minors, credible threats, or repeated breaks after a suspension.
- We contact the authorities, where the law requires it or where someone is in danger.
Because posts are held for an hour before anyone sees them, a report on a post that has not gone live yet can stop it from ever being seen.
If we get it wrong
Reply to the message we send you, or write to support@backpackofsongs.com. A person will read it and answer. If we removed something we should not have, we put it back.
Changes
These guidelines are part of the Terms of Use. We update them when we learn something, and the version at the top tells you which text applies.
